Cordova IP change
Cordova telco changed their IP addresses again. The new address for the router is 199.189.128.253/255.255.255.240. Router 199.189.128.241. Rick Sudano (rick.sudano@faa.gov, 424-7110 and 424-3252) from the FAA consoled in and made the config changes. Jeff Read (jeff.read@b2ak.com, 230-0645) at B2 Alaska gave us the new ip addresses.
Poker Network Changes
Meeting with Don Hampton and Kevin Abnett this morning about VLANs at Poker Flat to ease some of their IP addresses problems.
I'll enable VLANs on the router and set up the following VLANS: one for the main Poker subnet, 137.229.18.0/24. One for private address space, TBDecided later. I'll probably create another VLAN for network management.
NetReg will be used for all user subnets feeding back to DNS.
Changing IP addresses and enrolling in NetReg will be a painful process, but worth it in the long term.
Deployment timeframe: Start during week of Sept 12.
ArcGIS and Anchorage resellers
John Bean at UAA has been trying to get a "better deal" on ArcGIS. I mentioned to him that we couldn't stop him if he wanted to purchase a site license and distribute on his own. He talked to Rich Whitney, the CIO for UAA. Rich called me. Rich doesn't appear to be excited about John taking this on. He mentioned he talked to the UAA Provost ... who also thinks John should pay attention to being a professor instead of worrying about distributing site licensed software. Rich is at 786-4754 and rich@uaa.alaska.edu.
Drupal Accordion
Had to set up an accordion for Aldean in the library for the Bibliographies. See http://www.gi.alaska.edu/facilities/mather/Bibliographies.
Here are the steps for adding the ability:
- Install the jquery_ui module
2980G in Level 0 WRRB
Needed new ports in Level 0 WRRB for the Grants and Contract Admin people. Office of Sponsored Programs and the VC for Research Administration are also moving down there. I installed the old 6th floor 2980G switch. It wouldn't successfully trunk with the 4506 dow there, but came up immediately when I connected it via fiber to the 6500e in 113 elvey.
George Dooly and Aurora Forecast
George Dooly (or similar) cold called to sell us his "mobile app", which would simply let us drop html content on his server, where it would be accessible. He thinks we could benefit by putting aurora forecast info out that way. They also have an "unlimited" SMS/Texting service. People can sign up by texting to some number. We would drop a message in his system and he would send it out to everyone signed up. One can also drop out of the system the same way. He's in Maine and phone is 207-829-9988. He'll offer us the text service for $60/month. I'm not interested in his mobile web app.

Router for Tin City
Set up a Cisco 1841 router to work over 56k line to Tin City. The router address is 10.10.32.30. It serves up the 10.32.32.162-174 address space with router address 10.32.32.161. It is schedule for installation this week.
Bradley Lake VPN and cTCP
The IP address of the Cisco 871 at Bradley Lake needed to change because Homer Electric rearranged their network. The IP change went OK, but the 871 wouldn't create the VPN tunnel. Called Marvin Super at HEA (235-3367) and worked on it a bit, but no good. He's convinced his config is OK. I'm convinced my config is OK. Very friendly, but not really figuring things out.
